Build up or pursue your practice everyday with this specially made advent calendar.
Why an advent Calendar
I often see advent calendars being luxury items or edible goodies. Which is great but might not offer anything more in the long run. A regular yoga practice however can and will transform your daily life.
What's in it?
Well contrary to what you might be
lieve, no it is not all about asana or movement practice! Shock! I know right? Integrating a Yoga practice is in fact much more than making shapes with the body on the mat. Don't get me wrong, you'll have some physical practice as well but I wanted to share a glimpse of what you could do to bring yogic principal into your everyday. So everyday, you might find
Mantras
A mantra is a word or short sentence either in Sanskrit (traditional mantra) or in your own language. The word mantra can actually be broken down into two.
Man = mind
tra = transport or vehicle
This Mantra is used specifically as part of your meditation. You can repeat the mantra as you inhale and exhale in transcending or quieting the activity of the mind.
Alternatively, mantras can be used in silent repetition during movement practice to help keep the mind focused. It's been said that in yoga, Asanas are postures of the body and mantras are postures of the mind. Mantras, when used in this fashion, are more like affirmations and help to keep you connected to a particular state of mind.
Journaling
Writing down thoughts, dreams, visions and feels can be a truly freeing experience. Have you ever felt lighter when you finally write down a list that you can cross? I sure do! When anxious or heavy thoughts are out of the mind and on paper, they are suddenly not as heavy or as much of a burden anymore. The same occurs with positive ones. When on paper or uttered out loud, they seem to make sense and become truths.
Meditation
I used to have an aversion to meditation believing that I would never be able to stay still and empty my mind. But in fact, meditation is not what is seemed to be. It is a practice after all. The mind will drift aways and you have to bring it back. So I am sharing a few meditations that I found helped me accept meditation and relish in its practice.
Pranayama
Breathing is crucial to life. I like to think that even though we feel out of control with many aspects around us we cannot alter, the breath can always be tamed. It is quite comforting to know that when things seem to be moving too fast to catch up, pause, breathe and carry on.
Asana Practice
Movement of the body is important to keep the spine young and to alleviate stress or overcome obstacles. I am therefore sharing a few practices to bring either heat to release into the body.
Recipes
Often yoga is given a view of restriction and needing to detach ourselves from outter pleasures to draw in the divine. However, I truly believe that, actually, even if you are practicing yoga you can still enjoy the littles things in life. So I will be sharing with you 3 recipes I love to make during the festive period.
